La préfecture de Saga se situe au Nord de l'île de Kyushu au Sud du Japon. Entre la mer Genkai, au Nord et la mer Ariake, au Sud, Saga est une région de vastes plaines propices à la production du riz. Les montagnes de la région irriguent les sources souterraines, fournissant ainsi de l'eau d'excellente qualité. Ce contexte géographique a favorisé le développement des maisons de saké et on en comptait plus de 700 à leur apogée durant l'ère Meiji. Aujourd'hui l'appellation "saké de Saga" est protégée et concerne les alcools produits avec des ingrédients issus à 100% de la région.
