Kaneroku Matsumoto En is a family business specialized in tea. It is located in Shizuoka one of the most emblematic place of tea cultivation in Japan. While they attempt to create unique and innovative teas like hojicha smoked tea or black smoked tea, their tea trees are farmed in a traditional way. Tea trees are cultivated according to the "chagusaba" method where grass is cultivated next to the tea trees and then used as a mulch. It protects the floor, keeps water and fertilizer, and allow the producer to control the growing of weed. It perfumes the tea as well. Kaneroku Matsumoto En tries using smoking, to go over traditional Japanese flavored teas where there is a need for other ingredients than tea in order to give taste.
