Aola
This company founded in 2016 in the prefecture of Tokushima is named after Aola, literally the “blue mission”, in reference to color indigo blue, characteristic of the Tokushima region where indigo trees grow. An ancient Japanese tradition, indigo dyeing, considered a high-quality dye, was once very common on fabrics. The company has developed new techniques for dyeing wood while keeping its grain visible. In particular, it works with indigo paste, and uses it as a pigment rather than a dye. This has allowed it to develop paint and spray versions, which highlight raw materials. The objects are handmade by artisans using local materials.
