Somen

Somen are wheat noodles which have the particularity of being long and very fine. Traditionally eaten in summer and during the Tanabata festival on July 7th, somen are said to have appeared on the archipelago during the 17th century and are currently a staple of Japanese gastronomy.
Very light but satisfying, they are often found in summer cold and served with tsuyu sauce and small toppings to cool off during hot weather.
