Kazuma Shuzo

Founded in 1869 in the Noto region of Ishikawa, the Kazuma Shuzo brewery benefits from an exceptional terroir, renowned for the quality of its water, perfect for sake brewing. For over 50 years, the company has proudly protected and promoted its brand name, Takeba (竹葉). What makes Kazuma Shuzo unique is its exclusive use of sake rice grown by local partner farmers. In 2014, the brewery launched an ambitious project: to restore abandoned farmland into rice paddies. Today, 26 hectares have been successfully transformed. That same year, the company modernized its facilities to ensure top-quality sake. Despite the January 2024 earthquake, which caused a three-month water outage, Kazuma Shuzo demonstrated resilience by restarting production as early as April. Today, five young family members, all in their thirties, run the brewery with passion and innovation.
