Description

Gyokuro okumidori tea is covered a few days before harvest to give it a very round taste in the mouth. Indeed, covering the tea limits photosynthesis in the leaves, which remain very rich in theine, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They also become loaded with chlorophyll and give gyokuro okumidori tea its mellow and very umami flavor.

Based in Uji, a tea Mecca in Kyoto Prefecture, our supplier of Japanese teas, was founded in 1978, but its history dates back to the 17th century, to the Edo period. The ancestors of the current president were traders who acted as a link between tea growers and wholesalers. When this profession disappeared, he chose to take over by becoming a wholesaler himself, buying his harvests directly from producers throughout Japan. Today, his teas, all certified organic, are mainly grown in Uji, but also on the island of Kyushu, renowned for its vast fields and the quality of its plantations.
