Kaishindo
It is in Oshu, in Iwate Prefecture, that Kaishindo has been preserving since 1927 the art of yokan, a traditional Japanese confection made from red bean paste. Their specialty, Iwayado Yokan , named after the castle where it is said to have originated in the 17th century, is now recognized throughout Japan. Since its founding, the company has continuously refined a know-how passed down through generations. Staying true to traditional methods and the Japanese spirit of hospitality (omotenashi), it continues to produce an authentic yokan, with an unchanged taste, made without artificial additives, respecting the seasons and natural ingredients. At Kaishindo, they say yokan accompanies all of life’s moments—joys, sorrows, shared times, or moments of reflection. It’s a dish that appears simple, but is rich in history, sweetening daily life and creating a bond between generations.
