Morino Yoshino-kuzu Honpo was founded in Yoshino, Nara and its name derives from the city it was founded in. The production of kuzu starch debuted during the 16th century under the lead of the founder of Morino Yoshino-kuzu Honpo, Tadashi Hyobu. Striving to improve the products, his successor decided to move the company to Ouba, which area is known for its really low temperature during winter and where water flowing out from the depth of the earth is purer. Thus, all these characteristics make Ouba the perfect place to make kuzu. Pure and abundant water, and low temperature are required to make a good kuzu and almost 20 generations after Tadashi Hyobu, this traditional production process is still used, without adding any additives, to make the hon kuzu we offer. The same kuzu is also used during enthronement ceremonies to be presented to emperors. Ideal to thicken your preparations, this imperial quality kuzu brought you by Morino Yoshina-kuzu Honpo through Umami will undoubtedly find its way to your kitchen counter and enhance your dishes.
